Ricardo P. Aguilera is an Associate Professor in Control Systems and Power Electronics with the School of Electrical and Data Engineering and Team Lead of the Power Electronics and Energy Conversion (PECC) Lab, at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia. He received the B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Universidad de Antofagasta, Antofagasta, Chile; the M.Sc. degree in electronics engineering from the Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria, Valparaiso, Chile; and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from The University of Newcastle (UoN), Newcastle, NSW, Australia, in 2003, 2007, and 2012, respectively.

From 2012 to 2013, he was a Research Academic at UoN, where he was part of the Centre for Complex Dynamic Systems and Control. From 2014 to 2016, he was a Senior Research Associate at The University of New South Wales, Australia, where he was part of the Australian Energy Research Institute. Since September 2016, he has been with UTS, Australia, where he currently holds an Associate Professor position. Since 2025, he was appointed as Team Lead of the Power Electronics and Energy Conversion (PECC) Lab. From 2021 to 2022, he was the Vice-Chair of the IEEE NSW Joint Chapter PEL/IES/IAS. Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics.

His main research interests include theoretical and practical aspects on model predictive control with application to power electronics, renewable energy integration, and microgrids.
